The theme of the permanent exhibition on the ground floor of the main building of Beeckestijn is ‘the influence people have on their cultivated environment’. Genuine nature hardly exists any more in the Netherlands. Human action has shaped almost all of the countryside - for practical reasons, to ensure safety, to create parks and gardens, or merely because we want to use it to make an impression on others. This is a surprising story about the logic of landscaping. Anyone who enters will gain a different view on the world outside.
Beeckestijn room
In a separate space, you will find a projection in which the country estate itself plays a central role: ‘Beeckestijn. An important element in the Dutch art of gardening.
Temporary exhibition
Natuurmonumenten and Vereniging Hendrick de Keyser (the historic houses association of the Netherlands) demonstrate how they treat their country estates, with an emphasis on the cultural mission of these two organisations.
The gardens are always open to the public. The exhibition in the main building is open from Thursday to Sunday from eleven to four hours.
